Dianne Elderkin of Woodcock Washburn Authors Patent Litigation Chapter in Aspatore Book on Litigation Strategies
Woodcock Washburn LLP partner Dianne Elderkin has authored a chapter in the recently released book, Domestic and International Litigation Strategies: Leading Lawyers on Trial Preparation, Risk Assessment, and Best Practices for Prosecution and Defense, published by Aspatore Books, as part of the Inside the Minds series.

Her chapter, entitled, “A Patent Litigation Perspective” describes the role of a litigator and the complexity of patent litigation. She also covers different components of patent litigation, financial implications, steps taken before and during litigation, and other important considerations.

Elderkin, Chair of Woodcock Washburn's Litigation Practice Services Group, concentrates her practice on trying patent infringement cases. She has litigated and tried cases all over the country involving a wide range of technologies, including biologic therapeutics, pharmaceuticals, surgical and dental instruments, orthopedic implants, blood glucose monitoring devices, plasma sterilizers, consumer absorbent products and building materials. Elderkin has not only successfully tried cases to the bench and to juries, she has argued appeals to the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and represented clients in numerous arbitrations.

Domestic and International Litigation Strategies: Leading Lawyers on Trial Preparation, Risk Assessment, and Best Practices for Prosecution and Defense (ISBN: 9781596226425), is an authoritative, insider’s perspective on key strategies for addressing clients’ national and foreign litigation issues. Featuring partners and shareholders from some of the nation’s leading firms, these experts guide the reader through the nuances of representing clients in a variety of litigation matters, including medical malpractice suits, cross-border disputes, patent infringement, product liability cases, and appellate practice cases. These top lawyers reveal their advice on planning a litigation strategy and seeing it through the stages of a lawsuit: inception, discovery, motion practice, alternative dispute resolution, trial, and appeal. From the differences in representing defendants versus plaintiffs and the ways in which US and foreign litigation laws work together to the keys to building a successful client-counsel relationship and the factors to weigh when choosing between settlement and trial, these authors explain the personal, legal, and financial considerations both attorneys and their clients must make in approaching litigation situations.
