McGlinchey Stafford Sponsors Oral Advocacy Competition at the University of Mississippi School of Law
Jackson, MS – The law firm of McGlinchey Stafford sponsored today the McGlinchey Stafford Oral Advocacy Competition held annually at the University of Mississippi School of Law. The competition began with sixteen contestants and ended in a tie between the two finalists in the final round. The well-prepared contestants argued a very complex immigration issue before The Honorable Kay Cobb of the Mississippi Supreme Court, The Honorable Jerry A. Davis of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Mississippi and The Honorable Charles E. Pazar of the Immigration Court in the final round of the competition. After the tie was announced by Justice Cobb, the winners - Betty Dintelman and Andrew Coffman - received ultimate accolades from all three judges.

Following the competition, lawyers from the Jackson, Mississippi office of McGlinchey Stafford hosted a reception at the Downtown Grill in Oxford, Mississippi for all of the Moot Court Board members and the judges of the competition.

Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw advises on set up of UK Office of Telecoms Adjudicator OTA 2 Scheme
Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw has advised on the setting up of the UK Office of the Telecommunications Adjudicator OTA 2 Scheme. The OTA 2 has been established as a follow-on to the OTA Scheme and will continue to be independent of the telecommunications regulation and industry.

The OTA 2 scheme is an independent facilitation scheme set up to assist the UK telecommunications industry to agree appropriate product functionality, process specifications, change management, implementation plans and monitoring activities in relation to products.

The products include: Local Loop Unbundling (including Metallic Path Facility, Shared Metallic Path Facility, sub-loop unbundling and relevant support services, including air conditioning and power); Backhaul Extension Service; Wholesale Extension Backhaul Product; Wholesale Line Rental /Carrier Pre-Selection; Geographic number portability; and Broadband migrations.

OTA 2 was advised by Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw London Corporate partner Rob Bratby assisted by Rodney Edgerton.

Luce Forward Strengthens Tenant-in-Common Specialization With Addition of Bret A. Bartolotta
Respected attorney Bret A. Bartolotta joined Luce Forward on April 2, 2007, and is based in the firm’s downtown San Diego office.

Bartolotta, whose experience includes work in venture capital financing and Regulation D Securities offerings, drafting shareholder and buy-sell agreements, as well as various business entity formation documents, will focus on tenant-in-common (TIC) syndications as part of Luce Forward’s Business Practice Group.

Recognized as a tenant-in-common industry leader, Luce Forward's TIC practice is led by attorney Darryl Steinhause, who pioneered the legal structure for the modern tenant-in-common syndication model over ten years ago.

“Luce Forward has long been at the forefront of the highly intricate tenant-in-common industry," said Robert J. Bell, Luce Forward's Managing Partner. "We are confident that Bret’s expertise will contribute to the strength of our Business / Corporate Practice Group, and aid in the growth of our TIC specialization.

Prior to joining Luce Forward, Bartolotta served as General Counsel and Vice President of Program Development for San Diego start-up company Card Holder Rewards & Benefits, and was previously Vice President/Attorney with The Sorrento Financial Group/The Sorrento Law Group.

King & Spalding Intellectual Property Attorneys to Map Out Patent Claims in April E-Learn Seminar
As part of King & Spalding’s monthly E-Learn Series, an hour-long web seminar entitled "A Roadmap to Patent Claim Construction" will be offered to King & Spalding clients on April 17, 2007 at 12:30 p.m. EDT. The seminar will address the process for constructing patent claims in light of the Federal Circuit's decision in Phillips v. AWH and subsequent case law. The seminar will be led by King & Spalding Intellectual Property attorneys Anthony B. Askew, Katrina M. Quicker and Jason M. Pass.

The seminar will be presented online from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. EDT. Clients of the firm will be able to participate online, or may view the program at the firm’s offices in Atlanta, Houston, London, New York, and Washington, D.C. Participants in the King & Spalding E-Learn Series generally receive CLE credit for attending the program.

Speakers
Anthony B. Askew is a partner in the Intellectual Property practice group in King & Spalding's Atlanta office. Askew is an accomplished patent trial lawyer with more than 40 years of experience litigating patent and trademark cases across the United States, including an appearance before the United States Supreme Court. Widely regarded as the "dean" of the patent bar in Atlanta, Askew has handled cases covering a broad array of technical subject matters, including biology, chemistry, electrical engineering and mechanical engineering, and has extensive experience litigating pharmaceutical cases as well.

Katrina M. Quicker is counsel with the firm's Intellectual Property practice group and resided in the firm's Atlanta office. Her practice concentrates on patent and trademark issues, with a particular emphasis on pharmaceutical, biotechnical, and chemical patent litigation. In addition to patent litigation, Quicker has drafted and prosecuted pharmaceutical, biotechnical, chemical, and mechanical patent applications; counseled clients on intellectual property issues, including licensing; prosecuted trademark and copyright applications; and litigated trademark, trade dress, copyright, and trade secret issues.

Jason M. Pass is an Intellectual Property associate in the Atlanta office of King & Spalding. He concentrates his practice in the areas of biotechnical and pharmaceutical patent litigation and patent prosecution.

King & Spalding Receives Highest Rating for Oil and Gas Legal Services
King & Spalding, a leading international law firm, received the highest rating for oil and gas legal services in a 2007 customer satisfaction survey by EnergyPoint Research. King & Spalding received the maximum rating of "four ribbons" for total satisfaction.

EnergyPoint Research’s 2007 customer satisfaction survey is this Houston-based independent research group's first-ever report focusing on outside legal services to the oil and gas industry. It was based on opinions collected through 359 evaluations completed from October 2005 through March 2007 by 125 respondents at 112 E&P companies, oilfield service and equipment providers, midstream and downstream companies, and oil and gas industry consultants.

Respondents were asked to rate the attributes of law firms in the areas of performance and capabilities, fees and fee structures, relationship management, personnel, staffing practices, communications and interaction, and service and professionalism.

Companies participating in the survey were from the following industry segments: exploration and production; oilfield services and equipment; facility construction; gathering, processing and refining; transportation and storage; and marketing and trading.

OSCAR C. CARR, III NAMED FELLOW OF LITIGATION COUNSEL OF AMERICA
Memphis, TN- Oscar C. Carr, III has been named a Fellow of Litigation Counsel of America, a trial lawyer honorary society comprised of experienced and effective litigators throughout the United States.

Fellowship in the Litigation Counsel of America is limited and by invitation only, representing less than one-half of one percent of American lawyers. Fellows are deemed to be among the best trial lawyers in the American bar, who have exhibited accomplishment in litigation and trial work, and who have superior ethical reputations. Mr. Carr concentrates his practice in litigation, with an emphasis on business, construction, environmental, and other civil litigation. He is listed in The Best Lawyers in America in the field of Personal Injury law and in Mid-South Super Lawyers in the field of Business Litigation. Mr. Carr has been listed since 1985 in Who’s Who in American Law and is listed in Who’s Who in America and Who’s Who in the World. Gray Plant Mooty Welcomes Two Associates
The law firm of Gray Plant Mooty has added two new associates: Maxwell J. Bremer and Alyssa J. Hirschfeld.

Max Bremer joins the firm’s Minneapolis office, practicing in the area of Business Law Transactions.
