Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw advised Aeroflot on offer for Alitalia
International law firm Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw LLP advised Aeroflot Russian Airlines JSC and its consortium partner, UniCredit Banca Mobiliare S.p.A. on a non-binding offer to acquire the Italian State's interests in Alitalia.

The Italian State invited expressions of interest for the purchase of (i) a shareholding of not less than 39.9% and no more than 49.9% in Alitalia - Linee Aeree Italiane S.p.A. ("Alitalia") and (ii) 1,207,147,404 convertible bonds issued under the debenture loan known as "Alitalia 7.5% 2002-2010". Non-binding offers were to be submitted by 16 April 2007.

Mayer, Brown Rowe & Maw and Italian co-counsel Tonucci & Partners, with which it has an established independent alliance, worked with Roland Berger, strategy consultants, to advise Aeroflot and its consortium partner, UniCredit Banca Mobiliare S.p.A.

Brussels based partners Kiran Desai and Edward Borovikov, assisted by Nunzio Bambara, led the team for Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw, whilst Rome based partners Marco Nicolini and Giorgio Alù assisted by Andrea Rosi and Francesco Fiore based in Milan led the team for Tonucci & Partners.

Janet S. Logan Receives The Indianapolis Bar Association’s "Paralegal of the Year" Award
The law firm of Krieg DeVault LLP is pleased to announce that Janet S. Logan, C.P., will be one of two recipients of the Indianapolis Bar Association’s "Paralegal of the Year" award during the organization's Paralegal Appreciation Reception on April 26, 2007.

The “Paralegal of the Year” Award recognizes an outstanding paralegal for his or her contribution to the paralegal profession. The paralegal must be a member of the Indianapolis Bar Association, have made an exceptional contribution, be recognized as a good role model for the paralegal profession, and deserving of special recognition.

Janet S. Logan, C.P., is a paralegal with Krieg DeVault, working with the firm’s Estate Planning Practice Group, the Tax Practice Group and the Real Estate & Environmental Practice Group. In 1989 Ms. Logan graduated from University of Indianapolis with a degree from the School of Business, Paralegal Studies Program, and in March of 1990 also successfully completed the National Association of Legal Assistants CLA exam in St. Louis, Missouri. She has maintained her CP (formerly CLA) credential since that date. Ms. Logan has practiced as a paralegal for twenty-one years primarily in the area of estate planning and probate administration. She serves on the Legal Ethics Committee and the Paralegal Committee of the Indiana State Bar Association, serves on the Board of Directors of the Indiana Paralegal Association, Inc., serves on the Indiana University-Purdue University Paralegal Studies Advisory Board, was involved in drafting, revising and promoting proposed Rule 2.2 Paralegals to the Indiana Rules of Admission and Discipline as well as providing testimony before the Indiana Supreme Court Rules Committee on proposed Rule 2.2 Paralegals, and is a member of the Indianapolis Bar Association, the National Association of Legal Assistants, Inc. and the National Federation of Paralegal Associations. Ms. Logan was also the recipient of the Indiana Paralegal Association’s “Paralegal of the Year” award in 2005.

American Jewish Committee Honors Seth Waxman with Judge Learned Hand Award
Partner Seth Waxman will receive the American Jewish Committee’s Judge Learned Hand Award at a luncheon on Thursday, April 26, 2007, at 12:00 PM at The Ritz-Carlton in Washington, DC.

The Washington Chapter of the American Jewish Committee annually presents this prestigious award to an outstanding leader of the legal profession who demonstrates high principles in the tradition of the legendary Judge Learned Hand, late Senior Judge of the US Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. Mr. Waxman is being honored for his valuable service to the nation and to Washington organizations both professional and non-profit.

Mr. Waxman, former Solicitor General of the United States, is universally considered to be among the country's premier appellate and trial advocates. A thoughtful teacher and writer as well, he is among a handful of practicing lawyers ever elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. His sustained devotion to pro bono representation and public and community service has made him an exemplar of the finest traditions of the bar. The American Jewish Committee is honored to present Mr. Waxman with its 2007 Judge Learned Hand Award.

Fredrikson & Byron Attorney Faye Knowles Appointed To The American Bankruptcy Institute
Faye Knowles, a shareholder in Fredrikson & Byron’s Bankruptcy and Franchise Groups, was appointed to the American Bankruptcy Institute (ABI) as co-chair of the Committee on Alternative Dispute Resolution. The ADR Committee, one of 21 substantive law committees, educates ABI members on the law involving alternative dispute resolution; keeps track of current developments; provides resources for attorneys, lawmakers, and academics regarding ADR; and works with other ABI committees to incorporate ADR concepts in other areas of insolvency law. The American Bankruptcy Institute is the largest multi-disciplinary, non-partisan organization in the world devoted to the advancement of jurisprudence regarding insolvency.

At Fredrikson & Byron, Faye represents debtor companies needing to reorganize in Chapter 11, work out financial problems out of court, or wind down business operations. She also represents creditors seeking to protect their interests, pursue their claims, or defend against preference and other demands in bankruptcy cases and work-outs. An area of specialty for Faye is representing other bankruptcy professionals in engagement and payment disputes.

Human Rights Campaign Event a Resounding Success
Bryan Cave was proud to be the Presenting Sponsor of the Human Rights Campaign's Gala dinner in Los Angeles on March 24th. The event was a resounding success with over 1,400 guests, including keynote speaker Gov. Bill Richardson and a number of members of Congress.

Bryan Cave Partner Curt Dombek was the featured speaker at a reception for 100 major HRC donors the evening prior to the event at the home of CBS executive John Wentworth and his partner Jamie Gluck.

Amy Judge-Prein Joins Life Sciences Practice Group
Amy Judge-Prein has joined Baker & Daniels LLP as counsel, concentrating her practice on regulatory matters for the law firm's growing number of life sciences clients.

Before joining Baker & Daniels, Judge-Prein served as Associate General Counsel with Eli Lilly and Company. In more than 11 years practicing with Lilly, she was lead legal counsel for developing and marketing numerous products, including negotiating label and advertising issues with global regulators and competitors. Judge-Prein also served as counsel for many types of clinical trials, spanning thousands of patients, dozens of countries and partnerships with government and academic institutions.

"We're very excited that Amy is joining our team," said Patrick S. Cross, leader of Baker & Daniels' life sciences practice group. "She brings years of experience in dealing with legal issues that are important to the success of life sciences companies. She'll be a great resource to our firm and clients."

Prior to Eli Lilly and Company, Judge-Prein practiced as an associate in the litigation department at Barnes & Thornburg. She also served as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Sarah Evans Barker in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana.

Judge-Prein graduated magna cum laude from Denison University and cum laude from the University of Michigan Law School.
