TWO EXPERIENCED ATTORNEYS JOIN LOCKE LIDDELL & SAPP’S DALLAS OFFICE
David L. Swanson and Todd J. Thorson have joined Locke Liddell & Sapp’s Dallas office; Swanson as a Partner in the Litigation Section and Thorson as an attorney in the Corporate Section. Prior to joining the firm, Swanson was a Shareholder at Jenkens & Gilchrist; Thorson formerly was as associate with Jones Day in Dallas.

Swanson’s practice includes handling a variety of commercial, construction, and real estate-related disputes in federal and state court, as well as arbitration. Representative clients include lenders, owners, developers, landlords and contractors. He has experience in all types of business tort litigation, labor and employment disputes, and intellectual property matters. He also has extensive experience in alternative dispute resolution and handling administrative hearings.

A graduate of the University of Missouri and of the Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law from Memphis State University, Swanson also has practiced law at Ford Yungblut White & Salazar; Patton Boggs; and Winstead Sechrest & Minick.

Thorson’s practice is concentrated in the areas of securities law, capital markets, corporate governance, general corporate law, and mergers and acquisitions. In addition to representing issuers in public equity and debt offerings, he regularly assists public companies in establishing policies relating to corporate governance, business practices and disclosure procedures. Thorson also provides counsel to public and private companies regarding internal reorganizations involving the reallocation of significant assets and subsidiary operations.

A former Sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps, Thorson has a law degree from Southern Methodist University and an undergraduate degree from the University of North Texas.

Bill Sweetnam chairs webcast on Section 409A Final Regulations

Shapiro Appointed to Fed's Public Policy Advisory Board
Dr. Lisa K. Shapiro, chief economist at regional law firm, Gallagher, Callahan & Gartrell, has been appointed to the advisory board of the New England Public Policy Center of the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston. The board was established this year to inform the center's research agenda and guide its regional outreach and communications strategy.

Approximately 21 members from all six New England states have been invited to sit on the NEPPC board. The group is mainly composed of the region's leading legislative staff, policy analysts, academics and media members. In addition to Shapiro, local members include: Lewis Feldstein, president of New Hampshire Charitable Foundation, Curt Grimm, director of programs of Carsey Institute and Steve Norton, director of New Hampshire Center for Public Policy Studies.

Dr. Shapiro authored the study Budget Deficits and Business Taxes in New Hampshire estimating the economic impact of further increasing New Hampshire business taxes. Additional articles are available in the Energy/Utilities and the Economic Analysis resources section of the firm's website.

Fisher & Phillips Included in the "Daily Dozen"
Fisher & Phillips was once again ranked in the Fulton County Daily Report's "Daily Report Dozen," a special section that profiles the top 12 law firms based in Atlanta. The headline for our firm profile reads: "Fisher & Phillips Looks for Growth Spurt in 2007." The article noted that the firm continued to grow organically in 2006, not through mergers or acquisitions of other firms. The article quoted Chairman Roger Quillen: "January 2007 is already the busiest month we've had in at least a year-and-a-half." Roger also told the Daily Report that the firm is considering offices in new areas. Recently, Fisher & Phillips opened a Philadelphia office. Roger said, "So, we think we've set the stage for another good year.

Dr. Raymond A. Harron Enters Into Agreement to Stop Practicing Medicine in Texas
Dr. Raymond A. Harron, one of the physicians whose practice of diagnosing silicosis claimants was called into question by the court in the Texas Silica Multidistrict Litigation, has agreed to stop practicing medicine.

Dr. Harron also holds licenses to practice medicine in nine other states. It has been reported that these other states will be informed of the Texas disciplinary action.

Marshall L. Ferguson Joins Williams Kastner
Marshall L. Ferguson, formerly with Floyd & Pflueger, P.S., has joined the Seattle office of Williams Kastner as an associate. Marshall's practice focuses on litigation, particularly concerning real estate matters. His clients include buyers, sellers, lenders, brokers, escrow companies, and title insurance companies. Before joining Williams Kastner, Marshall defended clients in cases involving real estate contract disputes, premises liability, employment discrimination and wrongful termination, personal injury, product liability, Consumer Protection Act violations, veterinary malpractice, and Indian law. He received his B.A., cum laude, from Johns Hopkins University, and his J.D. from the University of Washington School of Law.
