GableGotwals Supreme Court Award at the University of Oklahoma Law Day Ceremony
At the University of Oklahoma College of Law, Law Day Ceremony, three University of Oklahoma students, Stephen Dacus, Kenneth Hughes, and Patrick Wyrick were awarded the GableGotwals Supreme Court Award by Eric R. King, of the GableGotwals Oklahoma City office. In order to be considered for the award the students must have been enrolled in Supreme Court Decision-Making, which was taught by Professor Joseph Thai, associated with the law firm.

According to Kenneth Hughes, the class provides law students the challenging task of engaging in oral arguments over cases that are currently pending before the Supreme Court. Hughes intends to work in his Father’s law firm in Oklahoma City after graduation.

Recipient Patrick Wyrick expressed his appreciation for the class and for the instruction of Professor Thai. He noted that Supreme Court Decision-Making was the best course he took in law school due to his prior interest in appellate litigation and because of the exceptional teaching of Professor Thai. After graduation, Wyrick will serve as a law clerk under Honorable James Payne, United States District Court of the Eastern District of Oklahoma, but he would like to pursue a career as an appellate advocate.

University of Oklahoma President David Boren has expressed his gratitude for the award “which recognizes the teaching contributions of Professor Joseph Thai as it acknowledges outstanding achievement in oral argument and judicial writing by students in his Supreme Court Decision-Making class.”

Joseph Thai joined GableGotwals in 2001. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in English and American Literature, graduating summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Harvard College in 1995. He obtained his Juris Doctorate with honors from Harvard Law School in 1998.

Mr. Thai previously served as judicial clerk to Justice John Paul Stevens and Justice Bryon R. White on the Supreme Court of the United States from 2000-2001. He served as law clerk to Judge David M. Ebel on the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit in Denver, Colorado, from 1998-1999.

In 2003, Joseph accepted a position at the University of Oklahoma College of Law where continues to teach.
