Philadelphia

Firm Culture:  Firm boasts about a family enviornment. In reality, it is a cannabalistic machine that destroys anything that would be a positive change. This firm is top heavy. This firm pays some of the lowest salaries in the market.
Work & Hours:  Associates are to bill 2000 hours a year. Associates are docked many hours for things that they should have been trained to do. 2 steps forward, 2 steps back.
Salary & Benefits:  Of the lowest in the legal market. 2002 JD Graduate makes around 65K.
The Interview process:  Easy. You are speaking to total idiots. The HR/Office Manager/Webmaster/Anything She Can Take Over and Control is ignorant. The hiring partner cares more about martinis than you. The turnover is high. You have to have experience, but not too much as to make them look as stupid as they are.
Overall Impression:  Low quality "Oldest Law Firm in the Nation" -- Really gone down.

Philadelphia

Firm Culture:  Their claim to fame is the fact that they are the "Oldest Law Firm in the Nation". They are not only the oldest, but the cheapest.
Work & Hours:  They claim they are a "family oriented" law firm. However, the HR person does not know the definition of an EAP.
Salary & Benefits:  The salaries are pitiful. This goes for not only the staff, but also the attorneys. And it shows.
The Interview process:  Interview process needs definite improvement. There is no "orientation". You are hired and shown to your desk and that's it.
Overall Impression:  Do not bother applying there; they are way behind in salaries, computer technology, etc.

Philadelphia

Firm Culture:  Culture is not a word to associate with this firm. The only culture here is one of fear and distrust. Fellow employees will stab you in the back.
Work & Hours:  You will be told the hours are 9 to 5, but don't expect to work anything less 7 to 7, and pack your lunch as you will be eating at your desk.
Salary & Benefits:  Lowest in the industry.
The Interview process:  The office manager is the Wolf looking to consume small animals. Don't believe it when they tell you everything at the Marlton office is wonderful. If you hear the negatives don't let the Wolf down play them. Tears are an everyday occurence.
Overall Impression:  THis firm may be the oldest but if they don't start taking the time to mentor the next generation they will go nowhere. BILLING BILLING BILLING BILLING the only thing this firm cares about is astronomical billing. The turnover rate at the Marlton office averages one employee a month in an office with less than 15 employees.

Philadelphia

Firm Culture:  It is not the oldest law firm as it says. One does not have to be educated and certainly is not allowed to have a mind.
Work & Hours:  9-5 (and weekends w/out pay)
Salary & Benefits:  terrible
The Interview process:  is a hoax - Many were hired w/no experienced and not trained and should be - and then wrongfully terminated.
Overall Impression:  It's Very unstable -definitely suitable for someone w/a family.

Philadelphia

Firm Culture:  The firm is billed as The Oldest Law Firm in America. However, it could also be viewed as the Cheapest Law Firm in America and the most Cutthroat Law Firm in America.
Work & Hours:  Where do I start? While the official target is 2000 per year, which is about 167 per month, expect to work much more because associate time is cut substantially and more time is needed to make up the losses. You will also be questioned if you spend more than 2 hours billing for something. IT IS EVEN WORSE IN THE MARLTON OFFICE! See below.
Salary & Benefits:  Not great. Don't expect to make a lot of money here.
The Interview process:  Pretty easy because the salary is not great and the turnover is high, so they need bodies.
Overall Impression:  STAY AWAY FROM THE MARLTON OFFICE! The resident partner there will make your life hell. Imagine a boss that criticizes and insults you on a daily basis, heavily cuts your time then criticizes you for not billing enough (not kidding), gives you almost no court appearances or depositions, micromanages everything you do down to a 1 line email to clients, gives you non-billable work to do but also criticizes you for not billing enough (not kidding). Expect to work on weekends just to make the bare minimum. He will also criticize you if you leave the office before him or go to lunch with co-workers. STAY AWAY FROM THE MARLTON OFFICE! If you have to choose between unemployment and working at this firm's Marlton office, you are better off unemployed. If you work in Marlton, your anxiety levels will go through the roof & expect to start drinking or taking antidepressants. It is not worth it!

Firm Culture:  Culture, I am not sure you can call it that. I currently work for the firm and all they care about is the bottom line..which is money coming into the firm. Does not matter if you are belittled on a daily basis, are unhappy in how you are being treated as long as their money makers are happy, you mine as well shut up and get the hell out fast. And please do not have an opinion because that is your sure ticket out the door. I would caution potential prospective employees to seriously consider working for "The oldest firm", do not say we did not tell you so!!! I wish someone told me!!!
Work & Hours:  You must supply yourself with a portable toilet in order to be a successful part of this team. It is unrealistic to think one will be happy and stay at a firm in which they would have you act less like humans and more like robots.
Salary & Benefits:  Talk about tight, the are the very definition. And will stick a straw in their employees neck's to get every penny out of them.
The Interview process:  There is no interview, if you stay for more than 2 weeks they offer you a position.
Overall Impression:  There is no advantage to working for this firm, most of the staff seem to have perfected the art of lying. The Office Manager/HR Manager, she is a joke they have no idea of the potential for a law suit they place themselves in, you think they would no better with all the schooling they have had and their area of expertise in the law they often violate. One day may be someone will put them in their place.

Firm Culture:  None…unless you consider distrust, suspicion, deceit, conniving, lying, backstabbing, belittlement, disparagement, constraint, coercion and abuse as cultures. These are some of the “cultures” you’ll be exposed to at this firm. If you are not this kind of person, you will hate it here. If you are this type of person, you will probably make partner.
Work & Hours:  As far as work, expect to do the same assignments several times because your supervisor will not know what the hell they are doing and rather tell you how stupid you are rather than just have all the edits done in the first draft. Plus, depending on who your supervisor is, don’t expect many court appearances or depositions because your supervisor will hoard these for themselves so their billable hour goals are met and exceeded. As far as hours, the minimum is 2000 per year but expect to work 1.5 hours for every 1 hour you can bill. You will dread the end of each month trying to meet your quota. You will dread the following month when the partner cuts your previous month’s time in front of you. Plus, your supervisor will probably audit your time every few days anyway. Even if you meet the 2000 goal, they will still want more if you expect to make any serious bonuses or raises there. You will burn out pretty fast there or forge your bills but your career is not worth doing that.
Salary & Benefits:  Below market for salaries but they will constantly tell you that you are making a lot. Remember, you will be working for 1.5 hours for every 1 hour you can bill on top of the abuse you will endure daily. They do have medical benefits, which you will need for your psychiatric visits or the substance abuse problem you may develop.
The Interview process:  This is probably the easiest thing about the job. You will probably be amazed how fast you are given an offer. I hate to bust your bubble but because the turnover is so high, they need to fill positions fast. The HR manager and partners will tell you what a great place it is. If they don’t let you talk to other associates, that should raise a red flag. Even if they do let you talk to associates during the interview process, watch facial expressions and body language showing them holding back the truth of the work environment.
Overall Impression:  This is the place to go where you want to kill your career, not build it. There is no incentive to working here. You will be overworked, underpaid, insulted, abused and stymied all day, every day. If you are reading this before applying or accepting an offer here, do not take this advice lightly. Many people went through the trouble of writing reviews on this firm. Consider that there are many more that were also burned by this firm who did not write reviews. I know the economy is tough and jobs are scarce, but this is one not worth taking, especially in the Commercial Motor Vehicle practice group. If you are working there, I feel sorry for you. I suggest you both find another job immediately and document and record everything for your lawsuit against this firm.

Firm Culture:  The only culture in this firm is billing. I would like to tell you if you bill your hours you'll be left alone, however, I'm not a particularly good liar. I've never seen a firm with this many people so quiet. Fear permeates everything here.
Work & Hours:  The billable requirement is 2000. Good luck making it, as you'll get 'credit' for all hours billed, however, you'll also have a pleasant conversation with your supervisor every month because they had to cut 20% of your hours for no discernible reason. Your best bet is to treat your hours like you're putting in an appearance at a wake, something you have to do but don't have a good reason to avoid. You'll soon come to realize you're the honored at this particular wake.
Salary & Benefits:  The benefits are OK. Not good, not horrible. The salary is about commensurate with any insurance defense firm. In other words, low, and certainly not worth the aggravation in dealing with the supervisors.
The Interview process:  The turnover rate is very high, so this is a fairly easy process. I've also heard mental institutions are easy to get into. Draw your own conclusions based on the above.
Overall Impression:  If you're reading this because you're considering taking a job here, don't do what I did. I saw these reviews and thought 'wow, there are some disgruntled employees and they probably should be ignored.' As someone pointed out above, these reviews are the tip of the iceberg and you'll soon be on the Titanic if you take this job. Seriously, you'd be better off pretty much anywhere else. There are so many former employees that despise this place that a cautious person would heed the warnings and either get out or not get in at all. I would urge you to avoid working here at all costs. Though I don't advocate homelessness, in this case it might be the superior choice.
