Firm Culture:  What culture? Everyone is holed up in their offices All Day Long. Secretaries do nothing but complain (with good reason) and virtually the only contact between associates is to compare evacuation plans to another firm.
Work & Hours:  Holy crap! Forget having a life, pet, family or gym membership! And, billable target? What's that?!? Getting assignments at 6 or 7pm due first thing the next morning are "the norm." It's especially nice when you consistently get the Friday night assignments. Expect LOTS of weekends and nights (as in most). And, of course, your hours will be slashed or "adopted" by the partners.
Salary & Benefits:  Salary was similar to other Chicago-based insurance defense firms. No profit-sharing and bonuses were typical for a larger insurance defense firm of that calliber--cruddy and certainly not worth the hours. And to add insult to injury, even though you'll be stuck there at night and the weekends, don't expect perks like other firms (i.e., lunches or breakfast, paid parking, etc.)--you're on your own! Firm Motto: "Slave here on your own time on your own dime."
The Interview process:  A brilliant display of deception! I would have never guessed it was the reloving door for associates as it really was. Even the biggest A-hole was nothing but smiles during the interview process. But, I guess you turn pro when 1/2 of your day is spent interviewing the next wave of replacement associates.
Overall Impression:  Totally unstable as far as associate tenur is concerned. People would stay for a matter of 2-6 months and run out of the building screaming. Every lawfirm as a "token yeller" but this place is ridiculous! And, you may bill way way way above the target but forget getting credit at bonus time--your hours either magically disappear or get eaten up by partners. In sum, RUN AWAY AND RUN AWAY FAST!!!
