Annie, put down your gun.  Your best and sanest (and non-homicidal) bet is to make sure that you can find a good family lawyer.  A really good one will be an ally and make the divorce process as painless as possible. 

If you get one that tells you things like, "What, are you going to let that dick just walk all over you?" you need to move on to more amiable pastures.  A good family lawyer will help pick up the pieces, not give you a machete, no matter how angry you are or how much more money they'll make.

Also, keep in mind that the first person a divorcee sleeps with after the breakdown of a marriage is the divorce lawyer.  It's a cliche, but it's true . . .  those lawyers, they never stop working.
