Dear Judged
Pottermania

Hi Judge, With my tight schedule and numerous pending cases and clients, I still cannot get over Pottermania.  I have read all the books, watched all the movies, joined book clubs, written blogs, played games, joined online communities….  You think this will adversely affect my career?  (FYI: my boss looks like Voldemort and at times, I try casting silent spells on him). Is the Judge suffering from Pottermania too?

Dear imperial,

Hi Potter,

I would prefer not to use your first name.  Come on, you could have come up with something better, something that won’t be disgusting (maybe Potterfreak or leaking cauldron or expecto patronus or he-who-must-not-be-named, but seriously “Hairy”… doesn’t make sense).  Anyhow, the Judge gotta do what the Judge gotta do.

Let’s talk about you.  It seems you are a real Potter fan.  Don’t blame you, though!  As far as affecting your career is concerned, you know the damage has already been done (if you’d excuse me for calling it “damage”).  To solve cases and deal with clients, you need a fresh mind and lot of time for research and writing.  Most of the HP series are 400+ pages.  And you don’t have time doing all that the Potter fans do and then get back to office and serve the required 2,000+ billing hours?  You will not be able to do justice to your work.  The Judge feels you should leave these fantasies behind and bring yourself back to the real world.  At the end of the day, what matters is you and your career.  Considering your boss Lord Voldemort was funnyJ  I think almost everyone agrees with you there.

As far as the Pottermania is concerned, yes, it hasn’t left the Judge either.  The thing to ponder over: what makes it so enticing?  While browsing the Internet (which the Judge does a lot of times in the day), I came across this blogger’s view that made sense.  It said “The success of the Harry Potter series can be attributed to its masterful use of the hero's quest, which readers like because it gives them hope.”  Indeed!  The 11-year old confused kid turns 17 and overpowers “you-know-who”!!  This ought to make a person feel positive—makes him/her realize hidden potentials.

Going a little off track, I would like to share with you and other Potter fans some news pieces I found while browsing.  Though I could have used the same for the Bizarre News section, I’ll spare you with these crazy intricacies for now.

-A 78-year-old Bradenton resident shares the name of this fictional wizard: Harry Potter.  Every time a new Potter book or movie is released, this 78-year-old starts getting phone calls, interview calls, and autograph requests.  “The kids want to know if I’m Harry Potter,” he said with a chuckle.  “I tell them I’ve been Harry Potter for darn near 80 years”.

-The streets of Beijing are paved with a flood of fake Harry Potter books:  The names are really interesting: "Harry Potter and the Half-Blooded Relative Prince," "Harry Potter and the Hiking Dragon," "Harry Potter and the Chinese Empire," "Harry Potter and the Young Heroes," "Harry Potter and Leopard-Walk-Up-to-Dragon," and "Harry Potter and the Big Funnel."

-A head teacher caused some distress by reading to about 400 children from the last page of the final Harry Potter book at a primary school in Somerset.  One pupil at St John's School in Midsomer Norton is reported to have covered his ears after head teacher Carolyn Banfield began the reading.

So you see Potter, you are not the only uncanny one around…There are loads of them out there adding to the Pottermania each day.  So just let loose...At least you are not among those who are getting ‘ Hogwarts Headaches

The Judge cannot end this without a “Potter-Lawyer Joke”…  Here it goes:

“Are you planning to follow a career in Magical Law, Miss Granger?” asked Scrimgeour.
"No, I'm not," retorted Hermione.  "I'm hoping to do some good in the world.”
