Dear Judged
Impending Blues...I really look forward
to enjoy the weekends every time. But somehow the work pressures at the
firm don’t allow me to get into a really weekend mood. Am I getting
addicted to work? Do you face the same problem?
:(

Dear ritch,
Yes, unfortunately, I
do face the same problem; I find myself not only thinking about work, but
also actually working on my days off. As a lawyer, it’s just to easy
to become too wrapped up in work. I think it’s a combination of the
stress, high expectations, long hours, and extreme office politics. In any
case, yes, if you can’t enjoy your weekends, you’re probably
becoming a workaholic. At this point, the best thing to do is to make a
conscious effort to separate your work and personal life. Don’t bring
work home with you on the weekends; don’t check your work email
account, and don’t answer any work calls. Of course, I mean this
within reason; if this kind of behavior is going to get your fired and you
actually want to keep your job, then you have a decision to make: whether
you’d be happier in another field.
