Dear Judged
Swipe my practice areaI am a second-year Litigation associate. But I have come to realize that I
don’t want to be in this practice area any more.It drives me crazy
when there is an important case coming up. In addition to this, I
can’t handle the wrath of my clients. Do you think there’s any
way I can get into some other practice area? Do you think its too late
now? I was thinking of Employment or Real Estate?

Dear Broomiebroom,
To be succinct, no! Its not too late to get in to another practice
area…you’ve only been practicing for two years. Now that
you’ve got some experience, you should be able to transition quite
nicely. However there’s a caveat (come on, you knew there would be a
catch): do you have any sort of experience with Employment or Real Estate?
If not, don’t panic; instead, try to learn more about these practice
areas or if possible, get some actual experience in them. If your firm is
involved in these areas, try to see if you can get in on some of the action
there. I know a lot of people who have switched practice areas within
their own firm-good luck!
