Dear Judged
A Little EnlightmentI am a student working as a summer associate at a law firm in New Jersey.
The firm does not want to know if I’m thinking of joining
intellectual property or corporate until I have graduated from law school.
But I am quite curious to know which of the two I should join here at a
later stage. Both out here are pretty good.

Dear Doppiedaps,
I think that depends on what you’re interested in. I know its
tempting to take any offer from a big firm, regardless of the practice
area. But after a few months of working, if you’re not in a field you
like, you’re going to start to flounder. I would suggest you think
about which you like better—IP or corporate—and talk to the
firm about getting in to that team. Good luck!
