Dear Judged
BIGLAWI am going to join a small law firm. Don’t want name it. I want to
get into a big law firm as soon as possible. I have graduated from a top
law school and my GPA is 2.85. I have worked with a firm over the summer,
did a property law clinic. What are my odds.

Dear Gitz,
I hate to break it to you, but it doesn’t look like you’re
going to break in to a big law firm anytime soon. Large firms are notorious
for choosing the top students at the top law firm—and no one else.
Unless you have some major strings to pull, I wouldn’t hold your
breath. But if you’re truly stuck on the idea of working at a large
firm, I would suggest you try making some connections and developing a
reputation for being a specialist in a niche market. It’ll take
years, but at this point, that’s probably the only way you’ll
get into a big firm. Good luck!
