Dear Judged
The Judge rules on Bar ReviewI have a bet going with my law school roommate that we want you to settle.
We both graduated law school last May but he took the bar in July, whereas
I took a few months off and plan on taking the bar in February. My roommate
claims that taking a bar review class is essential; I disagree and think
bar review classes are a scam and that students could easily study for the
bar by themselves and pass. What do you think?
Sincerely,
Gitz

Dear Gitz,
Well, Gitz, first, let me say that I’m honored
(and surprised) that you would allow me to settle your bet; then again, I
am the Judge, so I guess I do have the authority to settle petty bets
between soon-to-be-lawyers. May I ask what’s at stake—lunch at
Taco Bell?
Anyways, I’m going to side with your roommate
on this one. While I think that it’s COMPLETELY possible to study for
the bar on your own and pass the exam, I wouldn’t say it’s a
breeze. Yes, we can have arguments about monopoly and antitrust issues
that some bar review classes have caused, but when it comes down to it, the
bar exam cover a lot of material, and the anything that makes studying
easier is worth it—at least it was for me.
That being
said, I sincerely hope the fact that I ruled against you won’t sour
you on the site…even though I know it will. But hey, I call them
like I see them; they
don't call me the Judge for nothing.
