I’m sure by now you’ve all heard that the Dewey Orrick merger was called off. But the question remains why? Such a merger would have obviously proved greatly beneficial for both firms. We can only speculate if it’s really pension issues that caused the demise of the merger, or if it’s something else. Anyone who has ever worked at a large law firm is well aware of the fragile and oversized nature of partners’ egos. You have to wonder if this merger fell apart simply because of too many self possessed partners who were unwilling to compromise their power and positions. One can only wonder…
