The subject of the day across the blogosphere is the Mr. Wizard-esque multi-liquid bomb plot foiled yesterday by British cops. (I love being able to use the word "foiled" in a serious sentence. So, obviously, do a lot of journalists.) Boingboing.net updated eight times just to provide all the links people were sending in (http://www.boingboing.net/2006/08/10/british_a viation_ban.html).

Meanwhile, the movie poster take off at Outside counsel (http://outsidethelaw.blogspot.com/) is creating a terrible temptation in me to email various government officials. In Samuel L. Jackson's voice. (http://snakesonaplane.varitalk.com/)

So people have been saying the site is confusing. They say they're not sure what the site is for, how to navigate it, if it's serious or a joke. Some people are just dumb. But then I got to thinking maybe these dum-dums have a point.

Drop me a comment letting me know what a redesigned Judged site would need to have to make you happy.

Anyone who watches Stephen Colbert knows he hates two things: bears and facts. So it was no surprise when he took on Wikipedia, the community-run online encyclopedia, and encouraged his fans to add crazy made-up statistics to Wikipedia, thus making fantasy a reality.

Wikipedia fought back, blocking certain listings from being edited. But there is still a lot of material on Wikipedia of questionable veracity. Ted Frank of Overlawyered (http://www.overlawyered.com/) went looking for legally themed Wikipedia entries that were inaccurate and found plenty. The respective entries for trial lawyers (and Democrats) Fred Baron and John Edwards sounds like they were written by their PR reps. The Association of Trial Lawyers of America sounds like the most important organization in American history in their Wikipedia entry. Topics like medical malpractice and toxic torts were clearly written by lawyers who oppose tort reform, as all statistics and facts that support tort reform are omitted.

With more and more people utilizing Internet sources for research, it’s kind of scary to think about Wikipedia’s varying reliability. Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales claims that his site is about as reliable as Encyclopedia Britannica, which also gets it wrong about 25% of the time.

America's sweetheart Denise Howell, the law blogger recently ousted from her firm, has alerted us to the latest instance of a judge citing the works of a law blogger. This time, preeminent legal scholar and blawgger Eugene Volokh (www.volokh.com) was quoted in a District Court dissent.

Ian Best of 3L Epiphany (http://3lepiphany.typepad.com/) is keeping a running total of the number of courts who have cited law blogs. As of 3L Epiphany's most recent update, there are 32 citations of legal blogs from 27 different cases, with 8 legal blogs being cited.

This means that blogs are steadily become legitimized as a form of scholarship (like it or not) and that certain law bloggers are advancing beyond mere Internet celebrity.
