Reports have surfaced that Fidel Castro’s health has taken a turn for the worse. This is shaping up to be an interesting couple of month for the demise of dictators. Sadam was executed on the December 30, 2006, and now comes the news about Castro.  One can only wonder what kind of effect his passing will have on the future of Cuba and communism…

Ok, let’s be honest: how many of you went to law school because you thought it would lead you to a fat paycheck, or at the very least, to a financially secure future?  Like it or not, money is one of the key reasons that people choose to become lawyers.  But with so many people graduating from law school and so few legal positions, law may not be the best career for people pursuing riches. Do any of these careers strike you as being more interesting than the law?  They certainly pay well…

When you think about the law, what words come to mind?  Litigious?  We’ll cover that this week. Scandalous?  We’ve got that here, too.  How about sexy?  Well, maybe that’s not the first word that comes to mind when you think about the law, but believe it or not, we’ll even touch upon that.  You can say a lot of things about this article, but don’t ever say that it’s boring.

What embodies the spirit of legal blogging more than debating the future of legal blogs?  I can’t think of anything more to the point than that.  This week Human Law [http://www.human-law.org/humanlaw/2007/01/the_spir ited_de.html] addressed the hot topic: will the amount of lawyers who blog drastically increase in number in the near future?  Only time can tell…but for my sake, I can only hope so; the more legal blogs there are out there, the more fun my job becomes!

If that’s not exciting enough for you, don’t worry, there’s far more scandalous stuff to discuss this week.  For example, Above the Law [http://www.abovethelaw.com/2007/01/breaking _was_chief_justice_reh.php] covered the very juicy topic of whether former Chief Justice Rehnquist was addicted to painkillers. Reports claim that at one point, he was taking three times the prescribed dose of Placidyl. Even better, once while in the hospital, Rehnquist tried to escape in his pajamas. Somehow, I never pegged Rehnquist as the type to have these kinds of issues…Scalia maybe, but not Rehnquist.  But we’ve got to hand it to him…for a guy who was that hopped up on painkillers, he really held it together on the bench.

Finally, let’s move on to the sexy legal story of the week.  Have you ever found yourself at Bar Revue, wanting to chat up that cute new IL, but at a loss for words?  Look no further, The Unreasonable Man [http://theunreasonabl eman.blogspot.com/2006/12/statutory-pick-ups-no-not-that.htm l#comments] has got your back.  This week, he revealed some very classy legal pickup lines.  My personal favorite: "Baby, after looking at you, I'm changing from a soft textualist into a hard textualist." Now if that won’t get you any action, I don’t know what will.

I hope you found this week’s article salacious enough to last you until next week’s article, because that’s all I’ve got. See you next week!

Apparently, the shocking news today is that Bush admitted he has made some mistakes in the war in Iraq (wow, shocking).  He stated, “Where mistakes have been made, the responsibility rests with me” (again, shocking). And with those words, he’s prepared to send another 21,500 troops to Iraq.  Does this feel like a bad flashback to anyone else besides me?

Before I get in to the meat of today’s blog, let me first apologize for referring to myself in third person; normally I refrain from doing that because it sounds so ridiculous and pretentious; however, the alliteration fit for today’s title, so I went with it.  Anyways, just fyi, I am jealous…have you people seen this week’s prize? If I weren’t so ethical (don’t laugh, it’s true, I am!), I would sign myself up on the site under another name, post like crazy, and then award it to myself. Consider yourself lucky that you’re eligible to win, and get busy posting…
